Whisky Reviews

Glen Grant 42 Year Old, 1964-2006, 40% abv.

Glen Grant has a series of these vintage, aged juice that seem to be hit or miss. I wonder how big their cellars are to have such offerings. Was it wisdom? Or are these from Gordon & MacPhail, which always confuses me, like are these OB? Not impossible to find, but their price tags are usually quite high. Luckily, I found one at a semi-affordable price.

Nose: great body, raspberry popsicles, fried pomegranates, a sort of carbonated concentrated juice, crispy graham crackers, hints of honeycomb.

Palate: medium body, a little dry surprisingly, initial palate mentholly, weird peppermint raspberry, mid palate shows more spice than a 40%-er, all kinds of evidence pertaining to raspberry soda, black cherry seltzer, back palate has a strong sherry flavor but without the earthy or burnt elements.

Finish: medium to long, apple and raspberry juice, lemon peel, sort of sangria but with the sugar toned down significantly, subsequent sips lean towards the apples and lemon aspects than the sherry/sangria elements.

Wow this was a wonderful sherry influenced whisky! So impressive for a 40%-er, power and flavor delivery are evident throughout. Admittedly gets less impressive with each sip, but such high grades for this pour.
