This is the secomd time for this bottling (posted Dec 17, 018, tasted Apr 13, 018).
After Billy Walker left the BenRiach Distillery Company Limited, he started again by joining with Graham Stevenson and Trisha Savage to form The GlenAllachie Distillers Company to acquire GlenAllachie from Pernod Ricard (and also brands MacNair’s and White Heather) around 2017. It was obvious that after this acquisition that there were many more IB GlenAllachies out in circulation. This release was from/for Japanese liquors specialist Shinanoya but before the change in ownership.
Nose: sweet apples, apple syrup, simple syrup, transitions into vanilla and toast, like apple on toast.
Palate: fruity sugar, initial palate is a little fruity, mid palate is like light fruit jelly, transitions into meaty fruit, back palate is like the fruit syrup in canned fruit, caramel, brown sugar.
Finish: medium, light concentrate grape juice, some wood in there too.
This isn't a fruit bomb, but feels like flavors after having eaten a lot of not-fresh fruit and sugars in cocktails. Its a little heavy on the tongue with all that sweetness, lacks diversity, not too complex, but does deliver that fruit syrup profile quite well.
Grade: B
