Whisky Reviews

Glenburgie 19 Year Old, The Whiskyfind, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Hogshead no. 5009, 234 bottles, 53.6% abv.

Supposedly distilled in 1998 and bottled in 2018. I would provide context for the great label art, but I am not too familiar with The Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Had this in 2018.

Nose: Initially vegetative, then a little toasty, after some time and a few sips it becomes extremely light bur super sour sliced lemons.

Palate: strong, initial palate is again quite sour (attenuates with time), lemons, new asphalt mix, lime rinds, then the mid palate gets closer to an earthy, roots, and vine like profile, with the back palate having a fruity sweetness, honeycomb, and maybe some lemongrass. With time the overall flavor gears towards a dried fruit, sherry-like and viney profile.

Finish: short, sweet, gets spicy, very numbing, bur after awhile my tongue feels like it's been covered in honey.

I don't remember Glenburgie being this weird. I have to say the flavors are strong, but the flavor types and combinations don't seem to mix well. It's basically lemons with condiments of honey, iced water, some light young sherry, and perhaps a sour herb here or there. Not sure what's going on, but I know I can't appreciate it well, but do appreciate the strength in flavors that do exist, just that it hides many other aspects. I'm wondering what The Whiskyfind is doing.
