Glenburgie 26, 1983-2009, Silver Seal, Sherry cask no. S1282, 37/114, 57.5% abv.
Glenburgie was one of those diatilleries that was sold and bought several times over abd ended up in Pernod's portfolio, contributing to Ballantine's blends. Most of the releases come from IBs such as Sestante/Silver Seal. Sestante was a famous Italian Scotch importer that like most Italian importers at that time, focused on single cask, cask strength bottlings. Supposedly back then the market was mostly Macallan and Glen Grant, with diversification dependent on importers like Sestante. Supposedly Sestante became "Silver Seal", who bottled casks from the Sestante days as part of the Sestante Collection.
Nose: fruity, burnt wood, with a good amount of time there is more vanilla and toast, soy sauce cooked fish skin.
Palate: dry, initial palate is honey sweet, mid palate is also honey sweet but with spices, back palate is a lot of honey, but shows signs of a strong sherry influence.
Finish: honey, spices, black peppercorn.
Overall a sweet pour, spices show up here and there, but it doesn't seem to go outside the lines. The presence of honey is a little balanced as it gets stronger on the palate and throughout the tasting as opposed to other more common bottlings. Like most Glenburgies, this one is strong honey with accotriments.
