Glencadam 2007, 13 Year Old, Single Cask Bottled for Whisky Journey Singapore, 40% ABV
Scotch Review #29: Glencadam single cask 2007 bottled 2020 for Whisky Journey Singapore - 40% - 13 years old - first-fill ex-bourbon
I was told this was likely chill-filtered and E150A. Now that's unusual for a festival single cask bottling, but the cut to 40% was a conscious choice by the organisers.
Nose: Sweet roasted sesame soy glaze (think Japanese dango), lotus seed paste and herbal-savoury-sweet Chinese braising juices sit atop the peaches I got in the NAS. A very East Asian dessert thing it has going on. Apricot and passionfruit emerge on the nose too this time.
Palate: Almond cream, peach tart, preserved plums. Slight mineral funk.
Finish: Castor sugar-sprinkled pecan crumble, dates, preserved plums, iceberg lettuce.
Conclusion: I really like the pecan crumble and almond cream thing it has going on. However, I don't think it quite gels with the sesame-soy thing on the nose. It's more complex than the NAS OB of the same strength, but the added complexity is not quite as cohesive, though the additional notes were characterful and tasty taken in isolation. There's also something vegetal to it. It does drink with slightly more texture than the NAS OB, and is less wispy to its credit.
