Scotch Review #30: Glencadam Origin 1825 "The Rather Elegant" - 40% - NAS - ex-bourbon then ex-oloroso finished
Nose: Tinned peaches, cream.
Palate: Surprisingly good body and flavour for 40%. Creme caramel with a hint of bitter char. Honey. Passionfruit. Preserved peaches.
Finish: Only here does 40% show itself. Surprisingly herbal here, light. Rosemary, basil, slightly-bitter candied peach skin.
Conclusion: Fresh and fruity but ultimately lacking in complexity and body. However, I would call it an easier, more cohesive drink than the single cask. The single cask brings more complexity and body at the expense of cohesiveness. Ultimately I feel the novelty, body and complexity is worth recognising in the single cask. It still outweighs the loss in cohesiveness (but only by the smallest of margins).
