Glenfarclas 8 year, J&G Grant, 105° proof.

Glenfarclas 8 year, J&G Grant, 105° proof.

Bartender thinks this is a 1970's bottling. Supposedly the J&G Grant label comes from the founders of Glenfarclas distillery. John Grant bought the distillery in 1865 and ran the distillery with his son George after his cousin left in 1870 to start Cragganmore. George Grant had sons named George and John. Then again George had sons named George and John who inherited operations... and this pattern of John and George and George and John went on till modern times. Not sure if repeating names that long was lack of imagination or something else.

Nose: slightly cooked grapes, wood juice, coconut, good amount white chocolate, great body.

Palate: alchohol, initial palate is cool white grape juice, begins to dry, same on the mid palate, but the back palate is where it transforms, it's wood, bbq, some wet old steamed lotus leaves, kitkat wafers, crackers and treats you find waiting in line at the grocery store.

Finish: long, tongue-coating, creamy, wood and grapes, slightly bitter, cools down.

Another intense one, strong flavors throughout, subtley fruity, white chocolate forward, wood dominant, but its just too strong. Interestingly, I posted tasting notes on another farclas8 (Jan 14, 2019, tasted May 24, 2018) and also said it was very strong and gave it a high grade.

Grade: B+
