I more than sparingly complain about North Carolina ABC’s *unique* logic when it comes to inventory choices and distribution practices. So forgive me for kvetching about it again. But if I could pick a single ongoing production bourbon to be put onto store shelves in the Old North State, I might pick this one.
SRP of right around $40, nice 7 year age statement, and same proof as the illustrious FRSB that’s nearly identical in price. It isn’t going to take you on any funky adventures or blow you away with unexpected twists of flavor, but it will deliver classic bourbon brown sugar and caramel goodness with just a touch of red cherry. It’s a near-faultless daily drinker in my opinion.
If you live in an area where this is available at or very near its SRP, maybe occasionally or maybe regularly, I advise pulling the trigger if you haven’t yet. I’ve seen this priced around $60 occasionally and while that’s far too much, at $40-$45 I think anyone who enjoys a classic bourbon would love this one.
The very observant among you might have noticed I’ve been going to this one frequently, and guilty as charged. It’s down to critically low levels, and there’s no reason to let this bottle linger. I’ve always found that bottles I open or use frequently flatten out the fastest when they’re near the end, and I don’t intend to let that fate befall this one.
