Whisky Reviews

Karuizawa 24 Year Old, 1983-2008, Cask No. 7979, 58.1% abv

Had this in 2019 at the end of a delicious tasting. Just because I spotted it late. My bottle seems very different from what is posted on Whiskybase... and the age... hmm... there might be different bottlings?

Nose: a smoked fruit bouquet, warmed wood briquettes, salty, smoked fish and properly BBQ-ed fish, steamed sardines or anchovies, an interesting combination of fruit, salt, and smoke, only hints of syrup here and there.

Palate: super dry, full bodied, initial palate is sour off the bat... like it starts work at 5 am, mid palate evolves into a super sour and sweet juice, smoked wood, smoked meats off the grill, damn this one develops quite fast, very citrusy more towards the yuzu and essence of orange (if they still sell that), back palate is mostly sweet fruits as well as sugar syrup. Overall intense stuff... even after having a bunch of > 55% abv-ers.

Finish: short to medium, dry, smoked fruit  juice,  quite sweet, solid, menthol,

Jesus this was a killer pour, I was stressed out from drinking this. It works very fast, basis of extreme citrus with fruit, almost C70A levels, great body, extremely tasty. This is a hard to find delicious profile. I really don't know what to say.
