Laphroaig 12, b.2014, bottle no. ?, 48% abv.
Bottled for the Nordics. Sherry butts and first fill hogsheads. Supposedly a bottle count of 1,278.
Nose: peat, smoke, wood, all the Islay mafia goodness, but with a noticeable amount of sweet fruit, red berry concentrate, berry compote, mashed red berries.
Palate: dry, initial palate is light honey, mid palate has smoked wood and honey, with the back palate being quite sweet. There are hints of smoke here and there.
Finish: moderate, slightly smokey, some peated wood, like sucking on honey suckle but not diabetes sweet.
Dry glass: wax, salt.
What can I say, it's a typical Islay Laphroaig, filled with peat smoke, wood, and medicine. There are hints of potent honey here and there. It's very nice, good balance of light peat smoke and sweetness. I really like these 11 and 12 year Laphroaig types, they seem to add an extra dimension to that peat smoke profile. Not sure where the sherry influence was though.
