Another Heaven Hill product but this one is considered their main wheated bourbon offering as of 2017 (tasting date). The legend of John E. Fitzgerald is an interesting one and google will probably do a better job than I can so I'll leave it at that, or for another day.
Nose: blue downey put in wood, "soft", "smooth", hint of toast, light dry honey notes, similar to paint drying. All these aromas hollow out after a few sips.
Palate: relatively smooth, relatively light on the wood at first, but more sour wood notes appear after a couple of sips. Old wet leaves also appear.
Finish: short, a very light sour wood aftertaste.
Dry glass: waxy.
The nose is interesting as it reminded me of fabric softener. The taste and feel was more towards water than bourbon which makes it smoother, but harder to taste. At my current tasting skills level, I'm sorry to say there isn't much going on. The more reputable online reviewers seem to agree, essentially giving Larceny failing grades. Makes me wonder about what some bartenders and bar owners have told me in the past, that many people don't actually "taste" whisky/bourbon. They just take a whiff from the bottle or a friends pour and then imagine the taste from that.
