Whisky Reviews

Longmorn 16 Year Old, 1996-2013, Old Masters, James Macarthur, Cask no. 156778, 57.7% abv.

How did this 1996 16 year Longmorn get grouped into the Old Masters lineup at James Macarthur? Had this in 2020.

Nose: peach scented chalk, with time its more white nectarines and peaches, red Washington apples, simple syrup, freshly cut golden apples, a tad under Irish whiskey and still very nice.

Palate: light to medium body, gets slightly oily, initial palate shows a sort of simple syrup, hints of salt, mid palate gets saltier, fruit flavored candy, a bit of tropical fruit juice, that Sunkist red fruit juice, seriously does not taste a bit over 43% abv, a little floral, back palate has a bouquet of stone fruits,  soft peaches, ripe nectarines, hints of plums, hints of peach bubblegum, whoa... hints of coconut, marshmallows, more tropical flavors come out

Finish: short, gets spicier and spicier so I guess it is 57%, peach rinds. After drinking water the sweetness comes out, like a sort of fruit candy sweetness... guess it did burn my palate?

Wow a great "partial" fruit bomb, full of stone fruits, bubblegum, crystalized fruit sugars. Bottles like these make me wonder how I evaluate a tasting experience. I am pretty sure I had another young TWA Longmorn that was slightly similar but I perhaps graded it lower as I thought many fruity whiskies should at least be in that fashion. Oh well, I make this up as I go along.
