Longmorn 38 Year Old, 1972-2011, Gordon & MacPhail, Japan Import System, First-fill Sherry butt no. 1078, 407/410, 53.9% abv.

Japan seems to have many of these old GM  book of kells, delicious bottlings. Long term relationships? Good exchange rates? Business? Maybe all of the above.

Nose: full body, sweet red fruits, prunes, cranberries, raspberries, raisins, hints of peach jelly, caramel dipped green apples, reminds me of vintage sherried Benriachs, a subtle citrus hint on deeper inhalations. Very nice.

Palate: light to medium body, a little dry,  initial palate has the sherry and wood juice, mid palate shows more thick red fruit juice, hints of peaches, hints of butter, light lemon wood polish, honey, caramel, quite potent, back palate has more lotus leaves, wood, used tea leaves, shows it's oiliness. With time it develops more body.

Finish: a little dry, medium, red fruit juices, red apple concentrate, honey,

Wow, so different from other old Longmorns I've had! Very strong flavors, almost balanced, those red fruits were so obvious but I wasn't sure if it was a sherry cask... quite a set of flavors.
