A sherry cask from the Macduff distillery, or is/was it Glen Deveron? Actually the original name of the distillery was Macduff (~1960), but the name of the founding company was Glen Deveron Distillers (~1958). Supposedly what happened was the predecessor to Diageo, DLC, trademarked the Macduff name and so Macduff changed to Glen Deveron. Online sources say this occurred around the 1980-90s. Generally the name "Macduff" is used by IBs.

Nose: great body, light vanilla, coconut peel, sour bosc pears, herbal medicine, gets vegetative at a distance, a little bitter, some hints of band aids.

Palate: well bodied, becomes drying, initial palate and mid palate has spice build up, honey, floral, everything is on the back palate with wood, leaves, some sour bitter flavors that are hard to describe. Alot of flavor though.

Finish: short, light smokey, whipped cream, peanuts appear after some time, almond shells.

This one was a little complex for me, generally sweet but not a fruity, honey, or sugar based sweetness, perhaps a combination of all. Many of these flavors were subtle, with the base being that sweet flavor I tried to describe. Generally a honeyed wood flavor profile.

Grade: B+
