Mannachmore opened in 1971 behind the Glenlossie distillery and their product was primarily used in Haig blends. Interestingly, Diageo uses the site to store whisky from other distillers as well as from Mannachmore.
Nose: strong vanilla, initially there was a bitter apple aroma on the back but it seemed to have disappeared after 1 or 2 whiffs, toast, strong chocolate, bubblegum, reminds me of some of the aged ichiro's malt cards, red apple juice, a light bitterness.
Palate: smooth, well bodied, initial palate is like light grape juice, light, mid palate builds up spice, some old apple cider, back palate is like toast, light vanilla. Very homey flavors.
Finish: medium to long, toast, light red apple juice residue.
I was initially hesitant since the last few Mannachmores I had were horribly strange, but this one is quite nice. The nose reminds me of several of the more mature Ichiro's Malt cards (american oaked ones), but after that the flavor completely digresses. This one is more baked apples oriented on the palate and in the finish. The apple flavors are not strong and are accompanied with a few other similar flavors. Unique. Excellent.
