"Obscure" Speyside (Allt-á-Bhainne) 1997-2021, 24 Year Old, Highlander Inn Maggie's Collection

Said to be an Allt-á-Bhainne, this older Speyside was aged in a refill Oloroso sherry hogshead. It was bottled by the Japanese owner of the Highlander Inn in Craigellachie exclusively for Singapore.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Toffee, Poptarts oddly come to mind, sugar frosting

Palate: Hot at 59%, a bird-eye chili spice with a slight metallic edge, nutmeg, kiwi, peaches, grapes

Finish: Heat lingers, grapefruit astringency, lemonade, spicy rose apple, fig jam

Surprisingly hot and sharp-edged considering upper-middle levels of ABV and age for this Speysider. I didn't dilute but this could need a dash of water. But a complex example of what good refill sherry tastes like nonetheless. 84 neat... Might just dram it again with water sometime later.
