Whisky Reviews

Royal Brackla 16 Year Old, Old bottle, No. 0633, 57% abv.

Note added after review: I had this at Full House Bar in Nagoya, Japan. In one night, I befriended the owner, Ray. I took a nice picture with him and we shared our common happiness in whiskies. He passed away about a year later (yet his FB is still accepting posts). He is missed.

Nose: potent, sweet potpouri, fresh fruits such as strawberries, raspberries, lemon, red apple, hints of seafood, seafood soup, not as intense as the blended Highland Nectar (bar owners own blend) I just had, but a Cantonese soup based nose nonetheless. Also beautiful.

Palate: initial palate is very sweet, mid palate has an extreme dryness, lemons, raspberries, very sweet, both a white sugar and fruity sweetness, back palate is where the abv hits for some reason.

Finish: long, strong sweet fruits, abv hits but still not sure why.

Not bad, I think the bartender felt sorry for me and started to show me the good stuff.
