Springbank 8, Old Bottle, Export, 43% abv.
Bottled around 1980/81.
Nose: body is mostly BBQ seasoning, vines, a sort of BBQ sauce or worchester sauce, backend hints of vanilla in there.
Palate: a little prickly, initial palate shows medium body, mid palate is generally sweet, has honey and some slight fruity and leafy notes in there, a little sour similar to seasoned limes or young limes, back palate is sour and bitter. With time, it becomes prominently more sweet and salty.
Finish: medium, a little dry, sour.
Quite tasty for an 8 year old, initially has that semi-mesquite, sour BBQ seasoning flavor profile in their that I see with bitter limes. But after some air time, its quite honey sweet and pretty salty, almost Islay mafia level, but more balanced. Springbank is one of those distillers which really confuses me as I can't seem to get an overall feel for their products. Some are amazingly good, but some are just water. This one is very good.
