Tamnavulin ~ Glenlivet 22 years old, Bottle no. 3639, 45% abv.

The Tamnavulin-Glenlivet Distillery Co. was founded in 1966 to primarily support blends. In 1993, Whyte & Mackay bought Invergordon Distillers, which inluded Tamnavulin, Bruicladdich, Jura, and Tullibardine, with Tamnavulin closing in 1995. After transferring ownership a few times, it was opened in 2007... to be used in blends.

Nose: burnt treated rose wood, starts off like chemicals, but builds up strength with time to an aroma with more body but seemingly like young sour wine, and more intense. There also seems to be a burnt pork aroma in there.

Palate: a little oily, dry, initial palate is water, mid palate has a sour coffee type profile combined with a type of old leaf or old bush branch type of flavors, back palate has some smoke, a tingly spice that attenuates with each sip, but shows its head here and there and random moments.

Finish: medium, a coffee stain type of mouthfeel, also akin to eating burnt rice.

Another interesting one that also seems to showcase texture and mouthfeel. This one was initially more flavorful, but cools down after several sips, I assume because my palate got accustomed to the dram. It offers a variety of aromas and flavors not really associated to typical modern whisky profiles and it is noticeable. The least enjoyable of the three, basically because I can't appreciate that sourness that pops up on the tongue and in the finish.
