Supposedly bottled around 2015, sold at the distillery shop only ¥6480? Part of the "decades" series, like 1990s, 1980s, etc., which are vattings of whiskies distilled between that decade, so in this case from 2000 to 2009.
Nose: apple-grape juice, light cinnamon, a sort of honey and bark mix, aromas remind me of a lighter version of Glenallachie 8yo.
Palate: light to medium body, a little dry, initial palate shows a grape sweetness with a hint of peat smoke on the tongue and nose, mid palate develops more texture, the sweetness changes to a sort of thick yet diluted honey, with time the body seems to get heavier and thicker, quite nice, back palate shows slight peat, burnt apple juice, honey, soup? bread, burnt bread. The honey-like flavor got more intense with each sip. All the flavor was on the back.
Finish: burnt bread, burnt bread crust, background of smokey or burnt apple juice, freshly sliced golden and granny smith apples.
Quite sweet and not a bad pour. Had this right after a pour of Glenallachie 8yo and this Yoichi is more balanced and controlled, relatively speaking. With time it really gets more flavorful in terms of this mysterious honey-like flavor. A little conflicted on how this rates, so I'll be conservative.
