Yoichi Heavily Peated, 3000 bottles, 48% abv.
This bottling was released around 2015 along with the Miyagikyo Sherry Cask. Was a big hit and quite hard to find now even though there were 3,000 bottles produced.
Nose: vegetative, slightly fruity, light, some light bosc pears.
Palate: fruity, smooth, slight wood, a little vegetative, some English biscuits, back palate is a wood and toast smoke. Very nice ending into the finish. Its all about the back end for this one. Where's the peat?
Finish: long, a light version of toast. Abv numbness creeps in at 48% though.
Wow, very good, well balanced, a bunch of flavors all over the place but focused on a toast theme. The diversity is just an enjoyment, especially right after a few low impact Laphroaigs, and the delivery is quite amazing. I am very impressed. I didn't get any noticeable amount of peat though, perhaps due to two super low peated Laphies I just drank prior? Or maybe I am just too used to Islay-mafia + Octomore levels? Had this at Bar Leichardt, Fukuoka, Japan.
Grade: B
