[#AllAboutWhiskyPh] Samplers.
Samplers are tiny whisky bottles that usually come in sizes of either 30ml or 50ml.
Strictly speaking, on a per ml basis, these are going to be costlier than your usual 700ml bottle. So why would you want to buy a sampler?
The beauty of trying samplers is that it allows you to get a feel for the whisky before committing to a full sized bottle. Often good retailers will offer samplers as part of a flight or even as part of a masterclass. The great thing about this is that in case you buy it as part of a set, you get to compare different whiskies side by side.
In my experience, often, samplers are prepared by retailers themselves to start a conversation in the local whisky community. Sometimes distilleries/blending houses themselves create samplers to encourage people to try out the many different whiskies they offer. Trying samplers with friends is always fun.
When I get samplers as part of a masterclass, I usually try half the bottle during the class. I set aside the other half for a later time. Then sometimes I do a shootout between the different samplers I have left.
Here I did a shootout after the masterclasses of @liquor.ph for Arran and @CompassBoxWhiskyCo. I was a little surprised but it was a clear and decisive victory for#CompassBox! Cheers!
