[Whisky Dram] No. 21. Nikka From the Barrel. Cinnamon Bread Whisky. Blended World Whisky.
#whiskyPhDram No. 21. Nikka From the Barrel. Cinnamon Bread Whisky. Blended World Whisky.
Nose - crunchy caramel bread, a little salt, caramelized sugar, peaches, vanilla, some earthiness, sweet pastries, damp freshly cut wood, cinnamon
Palate - thicker and richer than the nose leads on. Mouth coating and powerful, there is some oak, malty grains, toffee taken together with water, powdered muscovado sugar, fiery spices and a little salt. The high 51.4% abv is a little prickly on the palate. The bolder flavors of cinnamon and clove give way to a more welcoming wood and just the faintest memory of dried berries and rosemary.
Finish - a medium, pleasnatly tigling sensation on the palate with some vanilla oak, and later memories of cola watered down with melted ice and cinnamon bread.
Feels like a whisky for whisky lovers.
A lovely expression from #Nikka. The Nikka From the Barrel (FTB) was first released in 1985 and comes in its iconic 500ml square bottle that reflects its concept as a "small block of whisky".
This is a #WorldWhisky, blending malt and grain whiskies from Japanese distilleries #Yoichi and #Miyagikyo and Scottish distillery #BenNevis. Its elegant flavor profile is created by masterfully blending over 100 component malt and grain whiskies, marrying them for an additional 3-6 months of maturation in Nikka's aging cellar.
It's really complex and has a lot of exciting notes that can take you on a ride. It's got some good sherry influence and just a hint of peatiness that gives you some earthy notes. It also takes water pretty well and still remains powerful and rich after a few drops.
This bottle is pretty accessible from most of the online stores and places like Pioneer Center. Retailing at between P2,600-P3,000, I think this is the best bottle you can gift to a friend who is starting to get into whisky. A whisky lover's whisky that deserves to be on your shelf! Kanpai!
