[#whiskyphTip] The Infinity Bottle.
One fun way of enjoying a whisky hobby is by creating a bottle of your own personal whisky journey.
In the past few years, the #InfinityBottle has risen to prominence as a fun activity for whisky enthusiasts. I first came across the idea through one of the great youtube videos by @ralfydotcom. The idea is to create liquid that captures your journey in a bottle that will never run out of #whisky.
Creating an infinity bottle is simple. All you need are different bottles of whisky and an empty bottle. The steps are simple: just add a few drams in before you take a dram out, ad infinitum.
Some people try to capture all the whisky they've ever tasted by putting their "dregs" (the last drams of whisky in the bottle) into a decanter (or empty bottle).
Others try to bring out their inner master blender, looking to combine specific scents, notes and flavors, with the goal of building a better #dram than each of its individual components.
Other rules people use include not mixing whiskies that have the ability to "take over" the rest of the blend. This could mean 1) not mixing #bourbon or rye with #scotch and 2) not mixing #peated with #unpeated whisky.
The key is to take detailed notes of what and how much you've added to the bottle in case you ever come across a blend that you'd like to recreate. But also be warned that the blend can easily take a turn for the weird depending on what you put in. Once it does, it will likely take a lot of new additions to "blend out" the flavors that you don't like.
I've taken a carefree approach somewhere in between, adding to my bottle a 40ml dram of each whisky that I've decided that I really like.
It's a #peat monster, of course, mixing peated, unpeated and sherried scotch and japanese whiskies. So far I've got:
1. #Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength Batch 11
2. #Nikka Yoichi NAS
3. #Ardbeg Uigedail
4. #CompassBox Spice Tree
5. #Longrow Peated NAS
6. Ardbeg 10
7. #Glenfarclas 105 and
8. #Benromach Peat Smoke
It's tasting pretty good! What's in your infinity bottle?🥃
