[#WhiskyPHDram] No. 7. Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength Batch 11 (bot. 2019). Damp Campfire Barbecue. Islay Single Malt Scotch.
Nose - a rich, intoxicating scent of a burning campfire and honey coated oak, damp earth and grains, salt cured pork and freshly cut grass.
Palate - opens with a silky smooth honey coated wood, a sprinkling of sea salt, a vague memory of tinapa (smoked mackerel) before a burning campfire coats the mouth, a dash of firey black pepper, then spreads a delicious tart and sweet lemonade, dried tobacco leaves and vegetation. Bold and unapologetic.
Finish - starts with smoked beef brisket, faint olives, sea salt air with an underlying betadine (povidone-iodine) that continues and transitions to a second finish of milk chocolate and smoke that gives way to a distant third finish of lemonade and salt. It ends with bread, betadine and prunes.
Feels like a dinner barbecue by some freshly cut grass after the rains.
Wow. This is Laphroaig (pronounced La-Froyg). I was just blown away by this dram. This is definitely my favorite at the moment. It has everything I want in a whisky. It takes the classic #Laphroaig DNA: bold and unapologetic sweet oak, smoked fish, and antisceptics then dials it up to over 9,000 with explosive scents and flavors and a complexity that brings about waves upon waves of beautiful new memories.
This is one of Laphroaig's annual cask strength releases. The 11th of its kind, bottled on March 2019. And if this is any indication, those annual releases are probably amazing. As a #CaskStrength #whisky, the abv of this dram comes in at 58.6%. But this is one of the smoothest cask strength whiskies I've tried. These are aged 10 years in ex bourbon barrels and non-chill filtered.
As a limited release you expect this to be pricier than your standard 10yo. It's a bit difficult to get a hold of Laphroaig Cask Strength releases in the Philippines but I've seen the bottles priced between P6,000-P6,500 in Pioneer Center and online merchants like @jaybottsph. If you like #peat, trust me. Get it! Cheers!🥃
