[#whiskyphWaterSource - Bar] Yamazaki Distillery Tasting Room.
This is probably one of the best places in the world to go to if you've ever wanted to sample the elusive and expensive age statement releases of Japanese whisky giant, #Suntory.
This beautiful flight was poured for me at the tasting room of Suntory Yamazaki Distillery.
Set in the home of Japanese whisky, less than an hour's travel from either Kyoto or Osaka, you reach the magnificent bar of the tasting room at the end of a tour of the Yamazaki Distillery Museum.
Each order is served on a lovely Yamazaki copita (that you can buy from the gift shop) at 15ml per order. The prices are amazing too.
When I visited in 2019, the most expensive items on the menu were the 25yo Yamazaki and Hakushu and the 30yo #Hibiki. Still, these whiskies were reasonably priced at P1450 (¥2900).
The 18yo Yamazaki and #Hakushu and 25yo Hibiki were priced at a really good P300 (¥600).
Tha Yamazaki 12yo and Hibiki Harmony were sold at an amazing P100 (¥200).
The NAS Distiller's Reserve Chita, Hakushu and #Yamazaki were each sold for an absolute steal at P50 (¥100).
Apart from whiskies that could be purchased out in the wild, you can also sample items only offered at the Tasting Room. These include the Yamazaki and Chita new make spirits and the component whiskies used to blend the Yamazaki 12yo such as the 12yo #Sherry Cask, Puncheon Cask and Mizunara Cask.
I had myself a great time trying samples of the Hibiki 25yo, Yamazaki 18yo, and Hakushu 18yo for only P900. An amazing price for a tasting flight of this quality, probably cheaper than a single dram of either of these three in Metro Manila.
I even went back for a second flight of a few distillery exclusive component whiskies.
If you ever find yourself in Kyoto or Osaka, Yamazaki Distillery is definitely a worthwhile day trip. But keep in mind that trips to the distillery should be pre-booked with reservations made at the Yamazaki Distillery website. #Kanpai!🥃
