Central Perk Sour
2oz coffee infused 60/40 Rye Bourbon blend (Buffalo Trace Distillery
and Jim Beam rye)
.75 oz lemon juice
.5 oz homemade golden raisin syrup
.25 oz homemade cinnamon syrup
.25 oz grapefruit juice
.5 oz The Grinder Pinotage from @thegrapegrinder
Shake all except the wine and strain over a large rock. Float the wine over the top and garnish with a dehydrated grapefruit wedge.
I've always preferred whiskey sours in the "boston" style, with egg white sans red wine. But I got this interesting bottle of red which is supposed to have a nose of coffee and mocha and it made me want to try a twist on the New York Sour. I named the drink after New York's second most famous fictional coffee shop, Central Perk from Friends. While I like Seinfeld more, Monk's Sour sounded off to me.
Pinotage is one of the most popular grapes grown in South Africa. Its a cross of the Pinot noir grape and the cinsaut or Hermitage grape. The Pinot Noir grape is known for the great flavor in the wine it produces whereas the Hermitage is known for being hardy and growing well in difficult climates. From what I've read a lot of wine snobs look down on pinotage, but I'm a fan. My favorite comes from @assaf_winery in israel's Golan heights.
