This refreshing sour was supposedly another one of Hemingway's favorite drinks. As a diabetic he took his without sugar, and some of the recipes I've seen called for just a teaspoon of sugar. I'm using simple syrup as it dissolves quicker. Plus using a bit more sweet here balances out the sour citrus. The bitters floated on top stimulate the appetite, compliment the acidity, and make this a drink that's perfect for a poolside pre-bbq sip. Come summer I definitely see myself enjoying a few of these on a hot afternoon. Almost forgot to mention. I was inspired to make this drink by a post from the talented @mechanicalrelief
