Mojito
There are lots of different ways to make a mojito. Crushed ice, cubed, cracked. Simple syrup or raw sugar. ratios, types of mint. Types of rum. Whatever. I only have one rule about mojitos. They should be enjoyed outdoors. This one is...
2oz @wrayandnephewus Silver Rum
.75 fresh Lime juice
.75 simple syrup
6-8 mint leaves
topo chico
gently muddle mint in glass with syrup. add ice, rum and lime juice. top with soda water. garnish with mint.
The Mojito is a descendant of the el draque cocktail named for slave trading privateer Sir Francis Drake. Drake's crew mixed mint, sugar, rum, lime juice, and rum soaked chuchuhuasi tree bark with water to create a drink that helped fight scurvy and other illness while keeping the crew well lubricated. This is regarded as one of the oldest cocktails and if you lose the tree bark and use sparkling water you've got a Mojito.
The best Mojito I ever had was at an outdoor bar in Medellin, Colombia. They used raw sugar instead of simple syrup. Where did you have best Mojito you've ever had?
