It's almost Halloween and I wanted to highlight the most popular candy in my area. In China White Rabbit is not just a delicious sweet, it's a cultural icon.
The candy is given out to children as a reward and on holidays and it's history goes back to the 1940's. Originally the candy was called Micky Mouse ABC sweets and featured a cartoon image of Micky, because even in the 1940's China didn't give a shit about copyrights. During the revolution the candy ditched the Western imperialist mouse and was rebranded as White Rabbit.
White Rabbit was popular among students who would dissolve it in water to make a milk-like drink. It was even given to Nixon on his trip to China.
Internationally it's mostly known for recalls because some candies have been contaminated with formaldehyde and melamine, but hey that's China. Spooky.
This cocktail is a take on Bourbon Milk Punch using white rabbit milk drink in addition to milk.
