L’Espirit Epris 2011 Brazilian Rum

Let's take the road to Brazil to discover Epris rum, selected and bottled by the French wine merchant Whisky & Rhum . It is produced from pure sugar cane juice and distilled in a column still, then aged for 13 years in oak barrels (bourbon). This independent bottler aims to offer, with its L'Esprit range, authentic rums, without any transformation or blending (without cold filtration and without coloring). Epris rum is cask strength.

Very beautiful gold color, shiny and transparent.

On the nose we have something very vegetal and we find ourselves transported to the middle of sugar cane fields, it is sweet, the nose is aniseed (note of liquorice) with notes of sweet wood. The whole then becomes more mineral (earth, root, iodine), with a delicate floral flight on the end (citrus flowers, lychee) and fruity (fresh almond).

As with most cask strength rums (with a higher alcohol content, here 47.7%), it benefits from being rested, give it time to air and it will repay you well.

The palate is soft and powerful, with a beautiful vegetal note of sugar cane mixed with vanilla; like the nose we find this exotic fruitiness (citrus), juicy, with always this note of liquorice.

The finish gives pride of place to citrus fruits (zest) with a slight bitterness and a warming note of white pepper at the end.

A very nice discovery, this Brazilian rum, with a strong, unique character. It is the first rum in the range that I taste and I must say that it is also the one that most appealed to me due to its origin. Don't hesitate to try it, taking great care to give it time to express itself and open up. And don't hesitate to add a dash of water if the alcohol content is too high for you.
