DuRhum Rum Reviews

Plantation 20th Anniversary

The Plantation 20th Anniversary rum is a blend of the oldest reserves of the Ferrand house , and contains very old rums, some of which have aged in Cognac cellars for almost 20 years (the youngest rum used in the blend is 12 years old). First aged in the Caribbean, the rum is then meticulously blended by the cellar master of the Cognac Ferrand house. Everything is refined in small French oak barrels for an additional 12 to 18 months. This "double aging" gives this rum a roundness in the mouth and an incomparable velvetiness.

Beautiful mahogany color, very bright with orange highlights. Beautiful viscosity with long, thick legs that fall slowly along the glass.

The nose is elegant and gourmand , resolutely carried on the exotic fruit, and on the coconut in particular (but also banana and mango), all finely woody and caramelized, with a beautiful note of vanilla and grilled spices. A sweet smell of almond paste and chocolate appears; After resting the vanilla becomes more present, as well as the spices (cinnamon, nutmeg).

The attack is supple and delicate (round) , sweet, with a warm spicy (woody) side at the start, but quickly eclipsed by this caramelized note already present on the nose, and which envelops the tongue in a very pleasant way; The vanilla is very present here as well as the exotic fruits already present on the nose.

The finish is relatively long and soft , still sweet; spicy at first before becoming drier and revealing a beautiful note of coconut, all supported by the caramel, which once again softens the angles and makes the whole thing very harmonious. The smell of coconut becomes even more present once the glass is emptied.

Once again Cognac Ferrand puts its experience and refinement at the service of rum, which magnify the final result, even if it is sweet and rather sickening in the long run, which is a shame. This rum has a little something that brings it closer to a cognac.
