Taste Testing Chantal Comte’s L’Arbre du Voyageur

L’Arbre du Voyageur

Here is the first tasting note of an agricultural rum, not made from molasses but from pure sugar cane juice. It comes to us straight from the Distillerie La Favorite, one of the last two independent and family distilleries in Martinique, which still today produces its rums in the purest tradition. Although it comes from Martinique, this rum is above all the result of a passion: that of Chantal Comte , a winemaker passionate about rums, who wanted to launch a collection of Grands Rhums with exceptional, unique and sensory quality. Chantal Comte's rums are bottled in a cask strength version (45.5% for this one).

L'Arbre du Voyageur is an Extra-Old agricultural rum (7 years old) produced in only 3100 bottles. Its color is a beautiful golden and shiny, very elegant.

The nose is warm and floral : we can distinguish woody/spicy notes, citrus, floral and vanilla notes. It is very elegant, very delicate.

On the palate , we are dealing with a very round rum (sweet, persistent and endless), dry, which wonderfully expresses its terroir and its volcanic origins (note: sugar cane grew on the slopes of Mount Pelée). In the next sip we find ourselves in the humid undergrowth of tropical forests, lulled by spices (ginger), by notes of tuberose and flights of citrus fruits.

The finish is deliciously long, very rich. The aromas continue to develop and the memory of this rum remains very present after tasting.

A beautiful discovery, this very fine and delicate rum, which will go perfectly with a chocolate-based dessert. The mastery is perfect and the balance is a model of its kind; We have here a warm and expressive nectar with a unique and well-tempered character.

Rating : 85
