Taste Testing Ron Barcelo Imperial Rum

This is a traditional Spanish rum from Santo Domingo. It is made from a blend of rums aged 4 to 10 years, aged in Kentucky Bourbon barrels.

Its color is amber , slightly tawny. Very attractive at first glance, but still quite dark for such a young rum (average age 6 years).

The nose is quite rich ; we notice quite powerful tawny notes (tobacco, leather), caramel and a hint of vanilla. Don't hesitate to let it air well, it will only reveal more. It is a fairly complex rum that requires time, and several tastings.

In the mouth this rum is still as caramelized, the attack is supple but powerful and very "dry" and woody, tangy on the fruit. We find vanilla on the palate, quite hard notes of leather and spices (clove, cinnamon). A little peppery side gives this rum all its character.

The finish is just as dry and powerful , almost austere, with notes of spices, tobacco and caramel. The peppery note is still present.

This rum is undoubtedly a rum of character, which one learns to appreciate with time and which needs a lot of aeration. It may seem disconcerting with its
powerful notes but is well worth the detour.

It seems that this rum is recommended for cigar lovers; so if that's your case, here is a good reason - one more - to try this Barcelo Imperial rum.
