We all know the weather and climate are getting a little bit cranky these days, and it has been raining almost non-stop for the whole week. The rain and the cold weather really make you just wanna stay at home and binge on some Netflix series because honestly, how many of you are truly "working" from home?

Warm sunny weathers and beers are the best pairings, and they don't require much selling. The heat itself compels you to crack one open and gulp down its marvellous content, perhaps even leaving you thirsty for more. But, the same cannot be said when it is all cold and gloomy.

With the holiday season coming right around the corner, the colder wintery temperatures are also setting in. And how does this affect your choice of beer? It simply means it is time to move on from the light summery refreshing lagers, and juicy IPAs, to the more cold weather style craft beers. Perhaps the first impressions that come to mind for cold weather beers are those that are darker and roasty such as stouts and porters and it is not far from the truth. In fact, dark and rich beers are often higher in alcohol content and can induce the "warming" sensation on your body. Darker beers can also be enjoyed at a warmer temperature as compared with Lagers and Pilsners, and allowing your beer to warm up can also can the flavour and your drinking experience.

The ambience you're in can also accentuate your drinking experience as well. Try having a rich, creamy, and decadent stout next to a lit fireplace wrapped with a blanket, and at the same time staring into the flames while pondering about the purpose of life. Though I'm sure most of us peasants don't have a fireplace and it's impractical to have one in Singapore, you can replace it with a bbq pit. HDB dwellers who do not have bbq pits can head over to East Coast Park and book one... oh wait, Covid. F*ck!

So, what are some beers that we can recommend? For some dark and toasty goodness, go for the North Coast Old Rasputin Imperial Stout. It is rich, intense, with coffee aromas and complex flavours that end off with a comfortable warming finish. This is best paired with some roasts or smoked foods.

Another option is to go for those higher ABV yummies such as DIPAs or Belgian Quadruples. These beers carry that added benefit of the warming feel of alcohol. With that, we'd recommend Garage Project Yuzu Pernicious Weed or Delirium Tremens. Otherwise, if you're feeling boujee, we have a limited edition Port and Whiskey Barrel Aged Imperial Stout from Pühaste Brewery. At 12% ABV, not only does it give you the warming effect for the cold weather, but also gives you a mouthfeel and drinking experience that is hard to match.
