The Scottish Islands distillery, Arran Distillery, has popped the cork on the American market, releasing its oldest core expression – the 25-Year-Old Single Malt on US soil.
Hailing from the scenic Isle of Arran off the west coast of Scotland, Arran Distillery laid down its first casks of new make in 1995. These whiskies have been aged for a quarter of a century, and in recent years the distillery began releasing limited batches of its 25-Year-Old release to various markets, including the US.
All of the liquid in this expression was distilled in 1995, before being matured in two types of casks: 35% in Sherry casks and 65% in ex-Bourbon casks. This process leads a more balanced profile, rather than an overly Sherried flavour.
In 1998, the first cask of 3-year-old Arran Single Malt was unveiled by Scottish actor Ewan McGregor (you may recognise him from Star Wars). Ewan’s cask is still held at the distillery, quietly maturing alongside casks belonging to the Royal Family.
The whisky is bottled at 46% ABV, is non-chill filtered and has no added coloration.
Independent reviewers have also praised this release for its richness, maturity and delightful intensity. Limited bottlings are already available worldwide, including the UK and Singapore, with a recommended UK retail price of £291.67.
