Bintang Beer Celebrates Arak Day With Special Edition Arak Jeruk & Madu

Bali's favorite beer brand has come up with a new special concoction to celebrate Arak Day, an annual celebration of the island’s traditional coconut palm liquor.

Bintang Beer's Arak Jeruk & Madu combines a trio of iconic Balinese flavors: Arak coconut palm liquor, Kintamani orange, and honey. Local Balinese artist Ida Bagus Ratu Antoni Putra (known as Monez) was commissioned to create an art piece for the release.

The release is also a nod to Bali's culture and tradition. Marketing Director of Multi Bintang Indonesia, Jessica Setiawan said: “This drink combines the distinctive taste of arak with the freshness of orange and the sweetness of honey. We want to provide an authentic yet modern drinking experience for the community, especially the younger generation who want to celebrate their cultural heritage.”

Arak is usually made from the fermented sap of sugarcane coconut flowers, with an ABV that ranges from 20% to 50%. The most common way to drink arak is to mix it with a mixer like Coca-Cola.

Bali has increasingly focused on promoting its cultural heritage, including its arak-drinking tradition. Initiatives like the annual Arak Day in January aim to elevate the spirit's reputation. However, tourists are cautioned against consuming home-brewed arak due to the serious risk of methanol poisoning, a problem prevalent in Bali and Indonesia.

Visitors continue to be advised to stick to commercially bottled beer, pre-mixed bottled spirits/mixers, and wine.

The beer is now available across Bali at an ABV of 4.9%, and is available in two sizes, a large (620 ml) and small bottle (330 ml).
