Bowmore's Cult Followed Devil’s Casks Marks Its Return After A Decade In New Series Starting With 10 Year Old & 22 Year Old PX & Oloroso Matured Islay Single Malts

More than a decade after its debut, Bowmore has revived its Devil’s Casks series.
First released between 2013 and 2015, The Devil’s Casks trilogy was known for revealing a darker side of Bowmore's palate. Matured in rich sherry casks, the series was known for layering deep notes of dark fruit, treacle, chocolate, and warm spice over the distillery’s signature Islay smoke.
The Devil’s Casks' name draws on one of Bowmore’s famed local legends. According to folklore, the devil once entered the circular Round Church in Bowmore, only to discover there were no corners in which to hide. Pursued by locals straight into the gates of Bowmore Distillery, he made his escape inside a whisky cask bound for the mainland.

The revival comprises of two single malt Scotch whiskies:
Bowmore The Devil’s Casks 10 Year Old (56.6% ABV): A 2026 interpretation paying homage to the original three small-batch releases. It is matured in first-fill Oloroso Sherry casks and finished in first-fill Pedro Ximénez casks. It promises notes of dark fruit, fruitcake, cocoa and maple syrup, with a signature thread of smoke throughout.
Bowmore The Devil’s Casks 22 Year Old (59.6% ABV):This expression was made using two remaining casks from the original releases and matured for a further decade. It was matured for in first-fill Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks, before a final finish in refill Oloroso. This cask-strength expression is said to deliver notes of charred fruit and treacle, which give way to salty oak and liquorice.
Bowmore The Devil’s Casks 10 Year Old and Bowmore The Devil’s Casks 22 Year Old, will initially be available from Oct. 16 exclusively through The Whisky Shop, with MSRPs of £70.00 and £380.00 respectively.
They will then also be available from the Bowmore distillery from Dec 1.
