Brad Pitt wants to take you to the French Riviera.
The American actor just debuted his new gin brand, The Gardener Gin, inspired by the flavors and sights of the French Riviera. The Garden Gin was co-created by Brad Pitt and ex-Tanqueray master distiller Tom Nichol, in collaboration with the Perrin family, owner of Château de Beaucastel in Southern Rhône.
According to the brand, the Gardener is a London Dry style gin that bottles the essence of the Riviera. The gin is made from a wheat base spirit and contains botanicals such as juniper, liquorice, angelica, coriander, pink grapefruit, lemon, and sweet and bitter oranges.
Matthew Perrin from the Perrin family, who previously partnered with Brad Pitt on the actor's champagne brand, Fleur de Miraval, had this to say about the inspiration between The Gardener Gin's name:
"The light of the French Riviera is a lifeblood. Here, in this place blessed by the gods, the earth is tended by The Gardener. The Gardener works in harmony with the shifts of the season, the exchange of warmth and cold, the pleasures of living well. With the wisdom of experience, the gift of intuition, the whim of experimentation, The Gardener builds a recipe that combines the mystery of nature with the pleasure of knowledge. The Gardener tends earth, time, all the while guarding a way of life that exists nowhere else in the world.”
The process of creating The Gardener started about 2 years ago, the brand revealed, with Brad Pitt having to first lure Tom Nichol out of retirement. Nichol is no small figure in the gin making industry, and was presented with The Gin Guild's Lifetime Achievement Award back in 2015. Prior to his retirement in July 2015, he worked at Tanqueray gin as the master distiller for over nine years.
As to when the public can finally get a taste of it, The Gardener will be launched during the upcoming 2023 Cannes Film Festival happening from 16-27 May.
