Scotch whisky brand Chivas Regal is releasing the latest expression of its Chivas Extra 13 collection, the Chivas Extra 13 Irish Whiskey Cask. This new expression is said to be the very first scotch whisky that has been finished in ex-Irish whiskey casks.
According to the brand, the Chivas Extra 13 Irish Whiskey Cask will carry an aroma of subtle spice, fresh apples and soda, with note of honey on the palate and a smooth, sweet finish.
Bottled at 40% ABV, the Chivas Extra 13 Irish Whiskey Cask will be released as a travel retail-exclusive expression from July onwards, beginning in markets across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, India and the Pacific.
Chivas Director of Blending, Sandy Hyslop shared:
“We are very excited to be adding another expression to our Chivas Extra 13 collection. After the success of the previous expressions in the range, we felt the time was right to bolster the collection with a new variant selectively finished in Irish whiskey casks."At Chivas, we believe that blended is better and this is perfectly demonstrated through the unique and experimental Extra 13 range, which is pushing the boundaries of traditional Scotch whisky.”
The Chivas Extra 13 Irish Whiskey Cask joins five other existing collection bottlings of blended Scotch whiskies that have been finished or matured in American rye, rum, tequila, Oloroso sherry, and bourbon casks.
The Chivas Extra 13 collection was an experimental series launched by the Pernod Richard-owned brand to explore the effects of unique casks on the final flavor profile of Scotch whiskies. The idea for the collection was inspired by the brand's founding brothers James and John Chivas, who pioneered the art of whisky blending.
