Popular Scotch independent blender Compass Box is celebrating Tokyo's Three Rivers' 20th anniversary with a special Japan exclusive blend!

Three Rivers is an independent bottler from Japan that has established itself with an incredible track record of two decades of selecting high quality Scotch whiskies that it has brought to the Japan market, first established by two friends. 

Compass Box, led by founder John Glaser and chief blender James Saxon, have created a celebratory expression "Share, Enjoy, Celebrate!" to celebrate the milestone.

"Kaz Maeno of Three Rivers, our partners in Japan, wanted something vibrantly celebratory for their 20th anniversary. He asked for something happy, with a nod to our No Name, No. 3 Limited Edition. This is our interpretation of Kaz’s joyous brief."

Inspired by the famous No Name peat heavy Compass Box blend, the new expression is made of the following recipe:

39.0% Caol Ila Single Malt, Refill Sherry Puncheon

25.5% Ardmore Single Malt, First Fill Sherry-Seasoned Hogshead Casks

19.1% Glen Elgin Single Malt, Primarily Recharred Barrels and Hogsheads

5.7% Bowmore Single Malt, Refill Bourbon Barrels

9.4% No Name No. 3 Blended Malt, Primarily Recharred Hogsheads

1.3% Duokle Angelams Blended Malt, First Fill Sherry Hogshead

Compass Box

An abundance of toasted fruity notes and a mouthcoating, bright waxy quality. The smoke presence is like dry summer grass.

Three Rivers

I tasted it and it was warm and sweet smoke, iodine, oak, waxy grapefruit in the back, body was sweet smoke, iodine, salt, waxy, slowly grapefruit candy, and the finish was bitter and smoked to salty. It has a mature feel, sweet smoke, thick iodine and salt, a waxy body, and a grapefruit candy flavor from the back that is wonderfully pleasant! The recipe inspired by No Name No. 3 perfectly expresses smoke and fruit!

The 49.7% blended Scotch whisky has a total of 1,512 bottles, retailing for US$107.20 (excluding tax). The bottling is now available via Shinanoya here.

今回は遂に実現した日本市場向けコンパスボックス社限定品をご紹介致します。この「シェア、エンジョイ、セレブレイト！」はスリーリバーズ創設20周年を記念して特別にレシピを考案して造られました。足掛け2年以上に渡って交渉を重ね、ついに実現した日本向け限定品で、同社のジョン・グレイサー氏とブレンドを担当するジェームス・サクソン氏に特別なレシピの考案を依頼、日本市場でもトロピカルフレーバー＆スモークで大変人気のあった限定品「ノーネーム No.3」をイメージしてブレンディングを重ね、出来上がったのがこの「シェア、エンジョイ、セレブレイト！」。その名の通り、弊社創設20周年をみんなで楽しみながらお祝いしよう、というジョン・グレイサーからの嬉しいメッセージになっています！総生産数は1,512本で、ノーネームと同じ48.9％で瓶詰めされました。公表されているレシピは、カリラ蒸留所のリフィルシェリー樽が39％、アードモア蒸留所のファーストフィルシェリーシーズニングのホッグスヘッド樽が25.5％、グレンエルギン蒸留所のリチャーしたバレル＆ホッグスヘッド樽が19.1％、ボウモア蒸留所のリフィルバーボン樽が5.7％、ノーネーム No.3の残りが9.4％、リトアニア市場向け限定品の残りのファーストフィルシェリー樽が1.3％となっています。また、ボトルの裏ラベルにも蒸留所名が記載されております。

テイスティングしましたが、暖かく甘いスモーク、ヨード、オーク、奥にワクシーなグレープフルーツ、ボディは甘いスモーク、ヨード、ソルト、ワクシー、ゆっくりグレープフルーツキャンディー、フィニッシュはビター＆スモークからソルティーへと続いていきます。熟成感もしっかりとあり、甘いスモーク、骨太なヨード＆ソルトにワクシーなボディ、奥からグレープフルーツキャンディーのフレーバーが素晴らしく心地よいです！ノーネームNo.3をイメージしたレシピは、スモーク＆フルーツを見事に表現しています！20周年を記念するに相応しいテイストを是非ご堪能下さいませ。
