• Don Julio is bringing back its extra-anejo Ultima Reserva expression in celebration of Dia de los Muertos (the Day of the Dead).
• It is made with the final agave harvest planted by founder Don Julio Gonzalez back in 2006.
• It features a nose of toasted oak and caramel, followed by hints of apricot and orange. It offers honeyed agave on the finish.
• It carries an RRP of US$499. Ouch.

Don Julio is bringing back for a second round it's premium extra-anejo Ultima Reserva expression in celebration of Dia de los Muertos (the Day of the Dead). 

The limited edition expression is made with the final agave harvest planted by the brand's late founder Don Julio Gonzalez and his family back in 2006. The very last harvest was reserved specifically for this expression and so each bottle is specially labelled to mark this year's harvest.

The Don Julio Ultima Reserva expression is 36-month-aged extra anejo and sits right at the top of Don Julio's lineup of tequilas. It was crafted using the solera ageing method, combining and maturing tequilas of different characteristics finished in various casks, thereby allowing the final agave harvest to remain at the heart of the rare extra anejo tequila.

It was then rested in ex-Bourbon oak barrels and then finished in Madeira wine-seasoned casks. 

The rare expression features "a nose of toasted oak and caramel, followed by hints of apricot and orange. It offers honeyed agave on the finish".

The first batch of 4,000 cases was released in 2021, and the brand states that this year's release will be available in limited quantities at an RRP of US$499 for a 750ml bottle.
