First Peek At SMWS Singapore's Rare Scotch Release 'Bonkers for Conkers' 24.169

Whimsical whisky club and bottler the Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) has returned to Singapore!

We've heard through the grapevine that SMWS Singapore has a very special release to mark its return. This is a 33-year-old single malt called "Bonkers for Conkers" Society Cask No.  24.169, priced at S$6,500 and with an outturn of only 611 bottles.

It's a Speyside distillery we shall not naMe. If you know, you know! 😉

This bottle was distilled on 18 May 1989 and had been initially aged for 29 years in an ex-Oloroso butt before secondary aging in an 1st-fill ex-Oloroso butt the remaining years. This is bottled at 53.8% ABV.

Official Tasting Notes

Colour & Aroma

A deep russet hue led us straight into an autumn landscape with aromas of polished horse chestnuts, rosehip, birch branches, prunes, dates and figs.

Palate

Tasting neat the first thing we noted was “still plenty of zing”, followed by flavours of hay-smoked roe deer with blackberry and beetroot beautifully balanced by a fresh berry chantilly cake. After reduction, we found cedar, tobacco and dark chocolate notes next to the scent of roasting chestnuts. On the palate were orange oil, raspberry and blackberry jam.

Finish

A long finish from a tiramisu with conker coffee liqueur.

This expression will soon be available on SMWS Singapore's official site.
