Glenmorangie A Tale Of Tokyo This Way Comes

Glenmorangie's series of tales is going on a trip... to Tokyo!

On the back of the Highland distillery's previous Tales - of Cake, of Winter, and of Forest, is now going to the land of sushi, anime, and of course, Mizunara!

The new Glenmorangie A Tale of Tokyo will see a marriage of whiskies aged in Mizunara, Bourbon and Sherry casks.

"Of all the places he has visited, Tokyo is a favorite of our globe-trotting whisky creator Dr. Bill. Enchanted by this city of contrasts, he matured Glenmorangie in casks made from Japan's sought-after Mizunara oak, for a whisky as full of contradictions as Tokyo itself.

Aromas of incense curl round sweet toffee. Bursts of pepper counter bright, bitter cherries. Then fresh orange zest fades into almond flakes and sweet, deep-grained oak."

For the new expression, local Japanese artist Akira Yamaguchi was called upon to design the bottle's packaging; the "idea of my residing home conjures up so many different thoughts and feelings, and my work reflects Tokyo’s contrasts in many ways...incorporating hints about Glenmorangie and its whisky really appealed to my sense of playfulness” said the artist.

Official Tasting Notes

Aroma

Powerfully herbal, with hints of toffee contrasted by incense and saddle-soap, followed by a resinous note and a touch of cedar wood.

Taste

A peppery mouthfeel leads into notes of tangy oranges and bitter cherries alongside fennel and chewy oak.

Finish

Long and gently nutty, with hints of almond, mandarin, ground white pepper and more wood resin.

Well, Mizunara oak has obviously been a hot favorite as J-whisky fever has taken off, so it's not entirely surprising to see Glenmorangie finally have a go at it.

The new Glenmorangie A Tale of Tokyo will be first be available exclusively at Selfridges from 1-15 October, before a wider rollout with an RRP 76 GBP (or US$92.64).
