Gran Centenario Levels Up With Cristalino Expression

Gran Centenario is launching its first Cristalino expression - a trend that has gained popularity in the tequila space.

In short, Cristalino is Tequila that involves an added step of using activated-charcoal filtration to remove not just the color of aged spirit, but also helps to mellow and lighten out the "woodiness" that comes with aging - leaving an agave spirit that is cleaner, smoother, fruitier and more floral with less oaky influence; it's all the benefits of aging in wooden barrels with none of the drawbacks, or so is claimed.

Gran Centenario's Cristalino expression is aged in apple-hinted Calvados brand casks and filtered for clarity using Mexican silver. It is a blended batch mix of anejo and extra anejo tequilas. The expression is said to feature flavors of "vanilla pod, apple, baked agave and toffee".

Gran Centenario highlights that its expression is unique for its use of silver filtration rather than charcoal filtration (which is the typical Cristalino filtration process) in order to filter its amber-tinted aged expressions to clarity.

Gran Centenario Cristalino is available across the US for a retail price of US$79.
