Jean-Michel Basquiat's Legacy Lives On in Trio of Art-Inspired Dom Pérignon Bottles

Luxury Champagne maker Dom Pérignon has announced a special edition collection that will honour artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, one of the most influential neo-expressionist artists of the 20th century.

The Champagne house has previously collaborated with other artists such as Lady Gaga and Jeff Koons in limited edition collaboration bottlings.

The trio of bottles will contain the House's 2015 vintage, with label designs mirroring the late artist’s dynamic and boundary-pushing style. The champagne’s iconic pointed label has been emblazoned with abstract details from Basquiat’s celebrated painting, IN ITALIAN (1983).

The 1983 painting is compelling example of Basquiat's signature style, blending text, imagery and cultural references. It reveals Basquiat's energetic strokes and fascination with language, history and identity. The painting features both English and Italian words, along with motifs that evoke classical and Renaissance imagery.

Impressively, a complete image of Basquiat’s IN ITALIAN is formed when the three bottles are placed side by side.

The 2015 vintage, known for its vibrant flavours and complexity, is said to be the perfect match for this creative collaboration. The Champagne house describes it to carry Dom Pérignon’s signature balance of finesse and intensity, embodying the brand’s continuous pursuit of perfection. They have also been aged for about 9 years, offering additional layers of tertiary notes and complexity.

The collection will debut at department store Selfridges, with the set of three priced at GBP£220. It would also be available for purchase in Singapore via the following retailers: Crystal Wines, Oak Cellars and Moomba at S$310 for a single bottle, or with full sets priced from S$870 to S$926.25.
