One of the gems of the Scotch world has been Lagavulin's Offerman Edition, which is now in its third instalment. Offerman obviously being Nick Offerman who plays Head of the Parks and Rec. Department of Pawnee, Indiana, a stiff yet terribly comedic character who loves meat, woodworking, all things machismo, hates municipal government, and loves Lagavulin scotch.
While the first edition was not much more than a repackaging of the usual Bourbon casked 11 Year Lagavulin, the second edition, to much fanfare, featured a Guinness Stout cask finish, and it was met with great reviews, even placing #1 on Whisky Advocate's Top 20 Whiskies of 2021.
The third iteration will see an 11 Year Old Lagavulin aged in some charred oak cask and bottled at 46% ABV. The new Lagavulin Offerman Edition: Charred Oak Cask is described as "having aromas of peat, chocolate, and red berries, with notes of peat, wood, spice, cocoa, and sweet berries on the palate, concluding with a warm, lingering, spicy finish. It will be priced at US$79.99 and will be available from October 2022.
