What you need to know:

• Macallan is out with the second in their Distil Your World series that features expressions inspired by major cosmopolitan cities around the world, and is created in collaboration with the Roca brothers of world famous Spanish restaurant El Celler de Can Roca.

• This second expression takes inspiration from New York. It is priced at $4,200 or $4,500 for the 700ml and 750ml bottles respectively, and will be available in April 2022, bottled at 49.5% ABV, with only 1,000 bottles to be released.

• Macallan Whiskymaker Polly Logan travelled through New York with Joan Roca and took inspiration from its culinary scene and architecture. 

• Together, they selected six European and American oak casks that emphasised the key memories of New York; the sweetness of classic American candy with hints of chocolate and peanuts that evoke memories of "Nuts 4 Nuts" carts commonplace to Manhattan, and uplifting citrus flavors that represent the city's towering skyscrapers.

• The packaging heavily features blue accents that are inspired by the waterways surrounding the big city and comes housed in a presentation box engraved with an aerial map of the city. It will also come with a book showcasing the inspiration behind the expression and the process of creating it.

Macallan's whiskymaker, Polly Logan, is right back at it to unveil the second addition in the Scotch maker's Distil Your World series, this time paying homage to New York. The first in the series was an homage to of course, yet another global cosmopolitan city, London.

Polly was also responsible for kickstarting Macallan's Harmony Collection, which features eco-conscious materials used creatively and weaved into the whisky's packaging, having first featured the use of discarded Cacao husks and then just a few days ago, announcing a second addition to the lineup, Inspired by Intense Arabica; the coffee of course. 

It seems like on the project of The Harmony Collection's Rich Cacao, Macallan's whiskymaker was also brewing up the latest Distil Your World New York release with the world famous Roca brothers, of the award winning restaurant, El Celler de Can Roca, of Girona, Spain.

For this latest expression, Polly Logan and Joan Roca went on a trip through New York to capture the essence of the city and pay tribute to its unique culinary scene and defining iconic architecture.

Big apple with peanut brittle and milk chocolate. A sweet and salty mix like a rising dough and a whip of sidewalks, fresh rain, and cherry blossom.

Taste

Baked apple and raisin, chocolate-covered nuts, maple syrup, and toasted waffles with a side of salted pecans.

Finish

Medium with roasted nuts and sweet oak.

The entire creative process is captured in a new documentary episode of Distil Your World, which features the team from Macallan and the Roca brothers exploring famous cities around the world. Other cities that have been featured include Scotland, Jerez and London.

The Roca brothers have also created an NYC-inspired menu at their restaurant in Spain, which includes dishes such as waffles with chicken pâté, cured and smoked strip steak, and a caramel-filled apple.

This expression of Macallan's Distil Your World will be limited to just 1,000 bottles and will be available in April 2022, priced at $4,200 to $4,500 for the 700ml and 750 ml bottles respectively, and bottled at 49.5% ABV.
