Macallan Teases What Looks Like An Instant Classic: Macallan 12 Year Old 110 Proof Sherry Oak Collection

Thus far Macallan has always had fans choose - age or proof.

Now you could have a 12 Year Macallan aged in Sherry Oak, but that would be at 80 Proof (or 40% ABV), or you could have the annually released Macallan Classic Cut which typically comes in at the low-50's (100 Proof plus or minus), but it would be a non-age statement (NAS) whisky.

Clearly there was a gap.

And it seems like Macallan is making sure to fill it with the new Macallan 12 Year Old 110 Proof that looks to be part of the Sherry Oak Collection.

Now, as mentioned, there already is a 12 Year Old that's part of the Macallan Sherry Oak Collection (albeit at 80 Proof, or 40% ABV), and so this 110 Proof version seems like a particularly specific creation that's put out to fill that crack.

"The Macallan 110 Proof character is beautifully led by European oak casks, seasoned with sherry wine in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. It delivers aromas of sticky dates, cherry compote, cinnamon, cacao nibs and dried orange slices. On the palate, rich oak, sultanas, stem ginger, star anise, mandarin and dark chocolate coated espresso beans with a finish of treacle toffee, mocha and sweet cinnamon."

Whilst this looks to be headed to the US (which has traditionally had a higher proof 12 Year Old Macallan Sherry Oak Collection that comes in at 43% ABV or 86 Proof), let's hope this makes its appearance worldwide.
