Oregon Brewing Company, the parent of Rogue Ales & Spirits, has voluntarily filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in the US Bankruptcy Court, District of Oregon, with debts totally over US$16 million.
In a successful Chapter 7 case, a court-appointed trustee sells any of the debtor's nonexempt assets and uses the proceeds to pay creditors. However, most filers do not lose any property because federal and state laws allow them to protect essential items.
A 24 November case filing indicated that the company had a total debt of US$16,763,460.26, primarily owe to several banks, as well as US$510,827 in property tax to the Lincoln County Tax Collector. Other notable creditors include US$61,405 to the Oregon Liquor & Cannabis Commission and US$865,441 to Hops provider Hops Direct.
Founded in Newport, Oregon, in 1988 by Jack Joyce, Bob Woodell, Rob Strasser, and Jeff Schultz, Rogue Ales was an early U.S. microbrewery pioneer.
The company soon expanded into spirits, venturing into distillation in 2003 with the launch of American single malt brand, Dead Guy Whiskey, in 2006. Later offerings also included gin, vodka, absinthe, and CBD seltzers. The company also previously operated six pubs across Oregon.
